Barry McGee at the ICA

We've both been long time fans of Barry McGee's work, so when this show hit BAM/PFA in California last year, we couldn't wait for it to come to the east coast. It took us too long to get there, but we finally made it to Boston's ICA last week to take in all that this exhibit has to offer. Our good friend and super talented artist, Fish McGill kept us company as we walked through the show. The artwork spanned from small portraits to large scale installations, grabbing your attention and holding it. We enjoyed being able to see a bit deeper into the world that this artist has created throughout the years, from the influence of the homeless population in San Francisco and the early train writers on his work to zines and the development of his detailed characters as well as his iconic hand styles. We've really enjoyed the ICA's attention to these types of artists as of late, and hope they continue to bring shows of this caliber to the area. Enjoy the images below.

It's that time of the year - when summer comes to a close and we prepare for Monster Party, our annual celebration of friendly monsters! This year we are holding it at UGLY Gallery in New Bedford, MA and we're looking for kids to submit monster drawings to our children's gallery. See below for details and then come to the opening on October 10!
