MAD INK at OneWay Gallery Narragansett

This past Saturday, Dec. 14, even though the RI weather was a bit treacherous, the Studio Miners celebrated the opening of MAD INK, new prints and artwork from the wild card artist known as Ryan Maguire. Ryan is never to be pigeonholed into one genre, medium, or aesthetic, and this show is truly representative of that trait.

Thematically, Maguire's work in this show covers Big Pharma, RI myths, marajuana, sports, the dark side of romantic relationships, mistreatment of animals, the protection of the environment, and so much more. He flows in and out of bold graphic styles to frantic sketches, capturing moments in time as well as the depth of the human condition. MAD INK is the embodiment of years of hard work, blood, sweat, and tears and is certainly not to be missed.

In case you didn't brave the snow for the opening, you can view the work at OneWay Gallery at 140 Boon St. in Narragansett until February 14.

Frog and Toad Windows

Tis the season for festive windows! Frog and Toad has quickly become one of our favorite shops in Providence. It is ridiculously well-curated, so much so that it is difficult to leave without buying something for yourself or a loved one. When we were asked to paint the shop's front windows, we jumped on the opportunity to spend time in a space with floor to ceiling goodies. Evoker drew up the concept and soon drunken sub-zero fun was born. Over two days, we both painted our hearts out and the result is a silly winter scene that we hope will make more than a couple passers-by chuckle. Thanks so much to Frog and Toad for letting us act like goons and feeding us pizza and tacos to fuel our painting fire.

RICC 2013

The Studio Miners are geeks. We get super into what we're into, niches that include toys, monsters, cartoons, and vintage salt and pepper shakers, so when we are allowed to attend an event that celebrates this kind of behavior - we're there. Over the weekend of November 2 and 3, Rhode Island Comic Con took over the RI Convention Center in Providence. Costumed goodies and baddies, sort-of celebs, fans, and artists all gathered in one spot to celebrate their geek-ness. Highlights of the day included seeing Johnny from the Karate Kid, a stellar Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle costume, Team Sweet being hit on by Bernie from Weekend at Bernie's, and our friend, Fletch, sweating profusely when meeting his dream girl, Catherine Mary Stewart (Weekend at Bernie's and Night of the Comet). The con will be back next year, and with the look of this year compared to last, the event will continue to gain steam through vendors and enthusiastic attendees.

Opening Reception Recap of Monster Party 2013 at UGLY Gallery

This past Thursday, Oct. 10, we celebrated the opening of the second annual Monster Party at UGLY Gallery in New Bedford, MA. Children and their parents, artists, and art fans filled the gallery space. There was something for everyone, with monster-themed games, artist-created coloring sheets, face painting, prize bags, and walls lined with spooky artwork from over twenty talented artists. We have to thank everyone who made this event possible - all of the artists, Jeremiah and David of UGLY Gallery, and of course everyone who attended the opening. This event is all about the community and creating a fun, annual get together that all ages can enjoy. The show will remain up for next couple of weeks, so if you missed the opening night, you can still view the monstrous work before the Halloween season is over! View more images here and here.
