Thrashin' Exhibit Opening Recap

This past Saturday, April 11, marked our fourth annul show at myplasticheart and we couldn't be more thrilled with the results! A huge thank you goes out to the gallery, all of the participating artists, and everyone who came out in support. This year, the theme is inspired by 80s skate graphics, since, in our travels, we so often run into beloved collections of old skate decks.

If you missed the opening, don't fret, the show is up in the gallery until May 9. You can also view and purchase work from the show online.

The opening of Thrashin’ is less than two weeks away, and as the date gets closer, we’ll be featuring some of the participating artists here on the blog! To kick this off right, we’re starting with newcomer to mph exhibits, Jake Hope, who has graciously supplied us with a super fun gif of his artwork in progress. The work, inspired by Powell Peralata and Santa Cruz, is entitled “Down with the Ship”.

Thrashin' Opens April 11 at myplasticheart

It's that time of year again! For our fourth annual show at mph in NYC, we're diving head first into the art of 80's skateboard graphics! Read on for all of the details from myplasticheart!

myplasticheart presents our annual collaboration with creative documentarians Studio Miners. This year we delve into nostalgic 80’s skate culture with a tribute to the influential skateboard graphic arts scene prevalent at the time.

“In our travels as the Studio Miners, we seek out collectors, those who have an itch to surround themselves with the sometimes wacky and weird and often inspiring and nostalgic. The collection we run into most frequently, whether limited to a handful or an entire room, is vintage skateboards. So many of our peers look to the designs of VCJ, Jim Phillips, and Pushead (to name a few) from influential 80s skate companies like Vision, Santa Cruz, and Powell Peralta to draw inspiration for today’s paintings and products. Our latest curatorial effort, Thrashin’, is a tribute to those significant graphics re-imagined by over 15 of our favorite artists, so this April, get ready for some of the raddest, totally gnarly graphics to bring you back in time – Live to thrash, dude!” – Studio Miners

Monster Party 2014 Recap

The opening of Monster Party was more than we could have hoped for! Kids were running all around the exhibit space, interacting with the installations, searching for monsters, having their faces painted, choosing designs for their screen printed tote bags, creating their own monsters in the art studio, and being drawn as monsters by our caricature artists. Thank you to all of the artists, the Boston Children's Museum staff, our families and friends, and everyone who has and will attend this exhibit. We could have not made this happen without the hard work of so many wonderful people! The exhibit is up for awhile (Dec. 6 is the last day!), so you have time to check it out if you haven't yet. Friday nights, admission is only $1 - so it makes for a great night out for kids and adults too! Come play and celebrate all things monster this fall!
